Why SLB?

Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity is the fastest growing Latino-based fraternity across the nation. For being a young organization, SLB has expanded rapidly coast to coast. Having over 140 established entities spanning over 30 states, SLB has become a model for the future leaders of the world by displaying the impact that the organization has had on individual men across the nation which has allowed for such a rapid expansion. This can be emphasized in our fraternity's motto: "Opportunity for Wisdom, Wisdom for Culture". Our organization has been noted by not only our campus involvement, but our service to the community, the country, and the world.

We are a Latino-based fraternity with multicultural membership, meaning that individual men of any race, ethnicity, or spiritual beliefs may enter our prestigious brotherhood. We are a culturally aware organization and serve as a catalyst to better serve the needs and wants of all people.

Why Western Betas?

Here at Western Illinois, we were founded 8 months after the organization's national founding. We have been recognized by the university and our national headquarters since December 6, 1986. Why does this matter? Having been the longest running chapter of all of SLB has shown that we have maintained the ideals, traditions, and brotherhood since '86 that has kept us actively running for future generations to come. This is emphasized through our chapter motto: "Where Tradition is Maintained".

We are known as the Beta "Death" Chapter for holding tradition of our members being consistently active not only throughout our collegiate careers, but for treating our membership as a lifelong commitment.

What is an Educational Process?

Not being a traditional social fraternity intake process, we take a larger pride in the way we go about recruiting new members. SLB at WIU does not "rush". Our chapter/nationals HQ requires a process where individuals will learn fraternal history, mission, and values of SLB. This process is meant to also be team building as we mold leaders and create bonds not only with the brothers, but with those who choose to take part of the process.

We take value and pride into our process as it is not for everyone and those who complete our process understand what it means to earn these letters.
